You Have Old Memories That Still Hurt? Copyright © Jan Tincher - All Rights
reserved Do you have old memories that still hurt? Probably. We all do, if we take the time to think about it. Sometimes they are buried so deep, it might take a while to get them out, but get them out we must . . .
Here is an exercise that will help. Sit quietly and hold your hand over your heart, feel your pulse for 2 to 3 minutes. Now, visualize a stage in front of you. Imagine what it would feel like to be the director of the play that is about to begin. You hold all the power of what is going to happen. Visualize a scene of the old memory that keeps haunting you. Arrange all the players so that they will be reenacting the scene exactly as you remember it, yourself included. Let the "play" begin. Watch as you get "hurt" again, physically or emotionally. Now, when the play is over, realize what was missing. What didn't you have that would have changed the outcome immensely? Self-esteem, love, commitment, self-confidence, what? Whatever was missing, give it an entity. In other words, picture it -- give it a size, a shape, a color, a texture. Now, imagine putting that entity of self-esteem, love, commitment, self-confidence, whatever it is that is missing, in your heart. Watch as it just flows right in. Now, think about that entity that you now have inside yourself that you didn't have before. As you think about now having it, do your shoulders go back? Is your spine straighter? Do you feel stronger? Are you suddenly taller? Do you have that love, commitment, self-confidence, whatever, now? Do you feel it? Now, in your mind, you -- as the director -- stand up and walk up to the stage and reposition the players. "You", as the actor, will stand taller and straighter with absolutely no signs of lack. You are no longer the victim, are you? Watch as the scene plays itself as you had wished it had in the first place. Now, with that new scenario, your memories are better. They go to the new "play" now, don't they? You've left the old memory so far in the distant past that it doesn't even come up anymore. And doesn't that feel good? When you have a bright future, your whole world seems better. Make several plays. Start out by making a new play each day until you don't have any bad memories, and you see great opportunities ahead. Do you know what's happened? You've just taken control of your life. Doesn't that feel great? Learn to get rid of all your bad memories so that your future is the future you want and look forward to. In other words, you've just gotten on with your life, leaving the past where it belongs -- in the past. Thanks for reading, Jan P.S.
