I Am So Happy -- Part 2
~ By Jan Tincher

Now that you have been working with this for a week or so, let's get back to when it would be great to use this exercise . . .

You are somewhere you don't want to be. Let's say you are in a certain situation and you are very unhappy. Someone has taken you out to a farm and you are odor sensitive. What are you saying to yourself? "I hate that smell." "I wish I wasn't here." "I can't stand this." Take your mind off what you are looking at AND the negative thoughts you are thinking, and find something in the situation where you can be thankful or happy, preferably both.

Why? Because right away you're in trouble. Not because of the odor, but because of the thoughts. Do those thoughts put a smile on your face? Oops. Maybe putting a smile on your face isn't your aim? Maybe you don't want to make this situation good?

Yes, you do want to make it good, right? You want to make every situation good. That's why you're reading "Tame Your Brain!"

Now, let's start over. What thoughts can you replace those negative thoughts with? How about: "I am so happy I am with my friends." Or "I am so happy I'm taking a day off." Or "I am so happy I am learning something new." You get the picture. And guess what's happening! Since you've taken the time at night to write what you are happy about, just saying or thinking, "I am so happy . . ." starts to trigger a happy feeling. Wow! Then, your mind searches for more things to be happy about!

What? You can't do that, you say? You'd rather put yourself through misery, than try to change things? Or you don't mind learning how to control your thoughts when it comes to business and success and family, but . . . this just doesn't seem important, does it? You really would rather be home and in control of the situation, right?

Wrong. If you can't learn how to control your thoughts in the little things, it's not going to come naturally in the bigger things. Believe me.

You are already in this situation, why not make the best of it? Notice I didn't say why not TRY and make the best of it, I said MAKE the best of it. If you can't find something good happening where you are, guide your thoughts to something pleasant. (But I heartily recommend finding something good right where you are.) Look around. Isn't the sky beautiful, isn't it a gorgeous sight watching the clouds slowly move through your vision, wouldn't this be a great place to relax, if only within? Isn't this a great time to work on your tan?

Isn't this a great time to tame your brain?

Here are some more words that will make you a happier person.. Use them or something like them. "I am so happy it is so beautiful out today." "I am so happy I have this time to relax." "I am so happy I am getting a tan."

I know, I know. The words that pop out might be, "I wish I wasn't here." etc., but that's not how we transform ourselves into the person we want to be. The person who is in control of his/her thoughts, the person who is transforming his/her life to the life that you WANT.

Again, if you can't find anything good where you are, guide your mind to something good, something that makes you smile.

You have to find your base in all situations, and when you learn to be content with who and what and where you are, everyone wins. Read here if you'd like to learn more about finding your base. http://www.tameyourbrain.com/yourbase.htm

To capsule, we all have bad times. It's what we do at that time that makes a difference in our lives. Put yourself in different situations enough times where being happy isn't *an* option -- it's the *only* option. And you take it! And isn't that great?

Thanks for reading,

Jan
