Pain. And Then More Pain.

Do you suffer pain? Pain physically? Pain emotionally? Pain financially? Pain socially? Pain spiritually? . . .

As my good friend, David Leonhardt of The Happy Guy, says, pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

Pain is what happens when something cuts you or hits you or stings you. It is the physical feeling of a physical event, or the emotional feeling of an emotional event.

What you do after the initial pain, regardless of what kind it is, is what is important. After all, the most important time of your life is when? Right now! Oops. No. It's right now! Oops. No. It's right now!

Why is that? Because what you are doing right now is what will affect your life tomorrow. The thoughts you are having right now will affect your life tomorrow What actions you are taking right now will affect your life tomorrow. Right now is the most important time of your life. Now is the time to start changing your thoughts.

Do you let bad memories affect you, even after everything is over? Why? Remember, pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Do you choose to suffer?

Are you unable to pay your bills? If you worry, you pay for that worry in more ways than one. Again, pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Are you choosing to suffer until you pay your bills?

Do you have problems socially? If you worry, you keep yourself from others. You go through the pain two ways - when you are with them and when you aren't. Again, pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Are you choosing to suffer in social repentance?

Do you feel apart from God? That, alone, keeps you from Him. Stop thinking about the distance between you two and start thinking about His love. Again, pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Are you choosing to suffer until you, yourself, feel closer to God? He wants you happy now.

Realize what is causing you additional pain. Choose to leave that pain behind and get on with your life.

Suffering is the post-pain pain. It is the self-inflicted pain we create by choice when we brood, whine, fear or react negatively to the pain.

It's hard to avoid pain, but you can choose not to suffer from it.
