That Was Then, This Is Now!

That was then, this is now. That was then, this is now. That was then, this is now . . .

Let that be your mantra when you think of something that happened to you earlier in your life that stops you from doing something now. You focus on it, for a short moment, then remind yourself - That was then, this is now. Then you dismiss it.

"I can't do it." "I never could do it." "I'm not smart enough." All those sentences require is the new thought: "That was then, this is now."

Some people automatically say, "I can't.". Do you do that? Why not say something like, "I can now actively engage in the activity of NOT doing it." Is that confusing?

Nah! Think about it for a moment. Saying "I can now actively engage in the activity of NOT doing it" doesn't shut your brain down like "I can't" does.

Do you see the difference? If you are actively engaging in not doing it, what are you doing? You are just not doing it. It's not that you CAN'T, it's that you are actively engaging in the activity of not doing it. Isn't that great?

What does that do for you?

Well, it makes it so that you're not telling your brain you can't do it. There's a big difference between not doing something and not doing it because you CAN'T. Simply because if you ever really want to do it, you don't have that negative program in your mind of not being able to do it. It's not that you can't, you just aren't doing it. Do you see the difference?

How about this? What if "I can't do it" was removed from your mind? Your boss, spouse, co-worker asks you to do something and you suddenly don't have an instant pop up in your mind saying you can't do it. The absence of your pop up allows your mind to say "Maybe I can give it a try". NOTE: That's definitely a thought you should think about promoting. <grin>

Now that you've stopped saying "I can't", here's nothing to stop you from learning something new, trying something new, experiencing life in a way you'd only dreamed of previously.

Live life to the fullest. That doesn't mean you do crazy things that get you hurt. It just means you are able to think about things and make intelligent decisions. Suddenly your life has changed. You are happier and more at peace with yourself because you've learned how to handle negative thoughts.

Now do you see the difference? That was then, this is now. A whole new NOW!

Jan
